Tallgrass Beef Carbon Credits

  • Do Something Positive For Our Environment!

There is great concern today about the condition of our environment and the impact of global climate change. Much effort is being made to determine how we can reduce our carbon footprint. The farmers and ranchers of Tallgrass Beef Company contribute daily to the reduction of carbon in our atmosphere. Growing grass removes CO2 from the air and the carbon is used to build the new growth. The grass growing above ground gets eaten by cattle, but a corresponding amount of CO2 is used to grow roots that sustain vibrant regrowth. Roots hold vulnerable soil, preventing excess runoff and erosion, and eventually decay to become part of the soil, thus storing or sequestering the carbon underground.

Therefore, carbon stored underground in grass roots eventually becomes a part of this newly created soil. This is the exact process that produced, through the centuries, the deep, rich soil of the great American prairie. This natural process of cattle grazing on open pasture can be used to clean carbon from the air released from fossil fuel burning, and put it back underground as part of the soil. America's wealth is in our pasture and prairies and our soil can be a renewable resource!

Now you can be part of this process by purchasing Tallgrass Beef Carbon Credits. Tallgrass Beef farmers and ranchers enroll specific tracts in five-year Carbon Account contracts with Environmentally Correct Concepts, Inc. (ECCI). Each year ECCI receives the production records for grassland and grazing activities on those tracts. The records are validated by ECCI Account Representatives who are located nearby and make on-site visits throughout the year. The amount of CO2 removed from the air is calculated for each specific tract enrolled in the Carbon Account. The metric tons of carbon dioxide are verified by ECCI's patented methodology and certificates of ownership for the resulting carbon credits are provided to the farmer/rancher. You may then purchase these Carbon Credits as a way to reward good grazing practices and improve the environment.

Each Carbon Credit you purchase equals one metric ton (2,200 lbs.) of carbon dioxide that has been removed from the air. Some is stored in grass or in the beef from the cattle that eat the grass. Some is stored in grass roots, which becomes new soil. The amount of grassy growth above ground is essentially equal to the amount of growth or roots below ground. The more grass cattle eat, the more grass is stimulated to grow both above and below ground. By managing the above ground defoliation of grass (grazing) appropriately, a farmer/rancher can increase the amount of grass grown on a tract of land, increase the amount of CO2 removed from the air, and improve the soil. The additional roots also reduce soil erosion. The grass-fed cattle move across the tract, naturally depositing fertilizer for future grass.

You can purchase Tallgrass Beef certified Carbon Credits for $10 each.
